The Christian Study of Islam – A Manifesto

Ben Hegeman, A5, 2016, 68 pages
Dr. Hegeman, professor at Houghton University, N.Y. state, argues that the Bible clearly gives us a mandate to study non-Christian religions and ideologies. Despite Islam’s resistance to evaluate its teachings from a biblical view point, and the superficiality that often marks comparative religious studies, he urges us “Study it anyway!” In the last chapter he maintains that Islam’s identity is in its primary sources: Quran, Sira, Hadith and Sharia Law. Studying these enables the Christian student to give a fair and true verdict on Muhammad’s evolving identity.
